Growing up in Cville was wonderful and has served me well in many ways! I did not get to graduate from FKHS since my parents moved to Wichita in 1962, but it remains "my hometown". I have used many C'ville experiences in speeches and opening presentations throughout my career. It has been fun to meet people all over the world who have Coffeyville stories!
I left during my sophomore year so my memories are from grade school and jr high. In general the little corner grocery stores where we would go for candy before school....the Big Hill pool every summer, tennis behind Mckinley school, of course Roys and dragging eighth street. Having to take a shop class and make guy stuff while the boys had to take home economics. The rodeos and parades were big in my family since we had a horse. Boating on some little lake with Darlene Bishop and doing funny off the wall projects with kids from the neighborhood.

Hi Peggy: here's an early birthday greeting because I'm travelling and am at the first stop; at my dtrs. in Ohio. I'll be here about 3 wks. and if weather permitting I'll go on to Minnesota with 2 of my sisters for a short visit with relatives there. I wanted to be sure to get your wishes sent. Have a good one..................
Have a happy birthday, Peggy, and many more!
Peggy, have a Happy Birthday. It's good that you enjoy what you're doing with your life and with your childhood upbringing and family residences. That is a good re-awakening.
My husband is beginning to deal with the hard part of Parkinson's. Hallucinations plague him but the med. available that they advertise on T.V. doesn't help him. The other med. only zonk out a person. So we deal with it. He's easy going with me and we slide on by. He takes a bucket-full of med. but it apparently works for him. He doesn't have tremors much at all, ie: dementia, hallucinations, fears, low esteem, and regular aches and pains of 79 yr. old. He sleeps most of the time and I do my own thing which is downsizing all my keepsakes and scrapbooks and year books, etc. That's taking me a lot of time because I do all the housekeeping. We have a 3 bedroom apt. with 2 baths but it's small and the landscaping and utilities are taken care of in the rent. It's a regular duplex with handicap features. We enjoy it since we left the Cedar Bluff farm. My sister lives down here. Our son lives in Lawrence and dtr. is in Ohio so we are better off here. We fly where we need to go otherwise. Again, it's good to see that you enjoy your life and likewise others. Joan

Happy birthday a few days early. It's been busy around here lately. Dtr. and family moved a few states away (for the first time), a neighbor broke her neck in a fall in her own house and when she called us to come get her from the hosp. (thought she was just shook up) a couple of hrs. after we arrived, we all learned she was being transferred to Tulsa hosp. for more tests. She asked us to look in on her house dog which we did as well as taking her outside to a walk, etc. The next day when we took the dog out, we noticed she had blood on her tail (and other places). Called our neighbor for further advice, got the dog ready to go to vet, then learned the dog wouldn't let us lift her by the ribs and she bit my husb. Had to call the neighbor back to get further instructions on handling the dog, got her loaded and another friend took the dog to vet. My husb. saw our Dr.(he'd had a tetanus shot in May and dog was up to date with shots) but husb. still got a small infection which I noticed the next morn. and cleaned the wound again and doctored it and now it's okay. Neighbor will be home sometime this wk. and so will dog. Wow.
Anyway, keep up your momentum with the house projects and take pride in what you're doing! Joan
