Janet Sue Frakes, 71, of Okesa passed away in Bartlesville, Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018.

Janet, affectionately known as Jan, was born the daughter of James Marshal and Betty
Jane (Wilkinson) Wray on Nov. 9, 1946, in Coffeyville, KS. She was raised in Coffeyville
and after graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School, she went to further her
education attending Kansas State Teachers College and Coffeyville Community College.
She majored in Psychology, and always earned her place on the Dean’s Honor Roll. Jan
was first employed by Funk Manufacturing Company as an Administrative Assistant. She
then went on to work in Human Resources, and worked for many years for several large
oil and gas companies in the Tulsa and Bartlesville area. When the oil recession hit, Jan
began a career in the insurance field in the Bartlesville and Tulsa area.

Jan was once set up on a blind date by her co-workers with Calvin Frakes. They quickly
fell in love and were married on Dec. 31, 1981. Calvin was the love of her life and they
were blessed with 36 years of loving marriage. Jan and Calvin enjoyed traveling together,
taking memorable trips to Las Vegas and Branson to enjoy the shopping and they
especially loved watching the live shows. During retirement Jan didn’t do much resting,
even though her disability kept her from being physically active. She remained as a
dispatcher for Osage County Rural Fire Dept., for over 20 years. Jan loved to collect
Precious Moments and Christmas ornaments to give to her kids and grandkids. Jan was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Dewey. She loved attending church there,
participating mostly through prayer.

Jan is survived by her loving husband Calvin Frakes; three children Shannon Helmig and
Leslie of Clarksville, TN, Christy Jackson and Walter of Bartlesville, Autumn Ruble and
Trey of Shawnee, OK; one brother Bob Wray and Rebecca of Kinsley, KS.; 12
grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son
Mike Helmig and brother Noonie Wray.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the First Baptist Church of
Dewey, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter
Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel. Online condolences
and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
