TIME FLIES! OCTOBER 4 – 5, 2024 IS OUR 60th REUNION!
In just over 2 months our class will be together again!
Our special time is coming faster than we can imagine. To help us finalize plans, please respond with your planned attendance to Sue Hulsey Rudziensky’s email: srudziensky@yahoo.com. Many of you responded after the first email, but please verify in case something changed or an email got lost. Let us know what days you’ll join us, and if you will bring a spouse or guest, include their name. It will also help to know your email address and physical address (if changed in past five years) to be sure we get any last-minute info to you.
Since October is just half a hot summer away, it’s definitely time to start planning travel and hotels. The hotels are: two Best Westerns, a Holiday Inn Express, and a Travel Lodge. I suggest going through booking.com if you don’t already have a favorite. I was able to book a room July 14th so there are still rooms available. The Dalton Defenders weekend and other reunions are happening, so book as soon as possible.
Activities planned, include:
Friday
3:00 - Dalton Defenders event if you desire. Includes many vendors and entertainment.
5:00-8:00 – Gather at Ron Stevenson building at Walter Johnson Park (701 Hargis Dr). There will be pizza and non-adult beverages. A charge of $30/each will be collected at this time. Any excess funds will be contributed to the Midland fund from the Class of 1964.
Saturday
8:00 – Breakfast at Peggy’s Grandma’s house (address provided Friday night)
10:30 – Tour of Midland and the latest renovations
Lunch – Your choice
1:30 – Visit Jr and Sr High Schools Travis Stalford is the Principal and son of the late Linda Martin Stalford, our classmate.
6 – 8 (or later) - Dinner at The Ville Pub and Grill (2300 Woodland Avenue). This meal will be self-pay. Peggy Steele and Jim Klumpp will lead our evening and will take time to remember our classmates who have passed away. Tim Key, our usual photographer, will take photos and gather addresses and money from those who want a copy.
Sunday
Working on a possible morning service.
Interesting Sites:
•The new parks are a must see! There is one across from the Elementary School and one on 1st Street called Sycamore Park located by the creek.
•There is a community garden maintained by students and other interested gardeners.
•The Air Museum on Big Hill attracts lots of attention and is now a very interesting museum.
•The Dalton Museum added more items that have been in storage or donated recently so check it out!
* Enjoy the bungalow renovations on 9th street
*The Dalton Defenders weekend includes crafts, food trucks, bands, Cherokee Indian Dancers and, of course, reenactments of that fateful day.
Hopefully, the weather will greet us with cool Autumn temperatures and beautiful leaves. In your spare time, drive around to see more improvements happening in our town and visit your favorite memory spots.
Looking forward to seeing many of you this October!
