Carolyn Gowen Temple

Carolyn Sue (Gowen) Temple was born April 27, 1946, in Coffeyville, Ks. to Earl and Leona (George) Howard. Carolyn passed away at 4:00 a.m. December 3rd, 2023, at her home. Carolyn attended school in Coffeyville her whole life, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1964. Right out of high school Carolyn worked for Parmac. The following year on March 6, 1965, she married the love of her life Floyd Joseph (Joe) Temple. They were married for 55 years. They made their home in Coffeyville, Ks. In 1970 they were blessed with their oldest son Joseph Allen Temple, five years later in 1975 they were blessed with a second son Christopher Scott Temple, and five years later in 1980 they were blessed with a daughter Staci Dee Temple. During the years of Carolyn and Joe building their family, Carolyn worked for Sear’s, Hargrove, Perl’s, and Roman’s. She retired from being a secretary at Roman’s in 2015. Carolyn’s greatest joys were spending time with her family and close friends. She loved going out to eat at all her favorite restaurants and playing cards and bunco with all her friends. Carolyn always enjoyed going to the Red Raven basketball games with her husband Joe. She continued that tradition even after Joe’s passing in 2020. They were season ticket holders for over twenty years. She also loved watching her kids in all of their activities. Carolyn loved going to watch the Tulsa Drillers as well. She liked playing the piano. She enjoyed pampering herself on occasion by going to Bartlesville and getting her nails done and then going to eat at one of her favorite restaurants like Murphy’s or Lot-A-Burger. She also enjoyed having her hair done each week. It was important to Carolyn to always look nice, and have lipstick on. She loved traveling with her husband Joe, they were able to see many states and make lots of wonderful memories. Her pets meant the world to her. Harley, Sparky, and Precious were very spoiled by Carolyn and well loved. Carolyn belonged to the Xi Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Carolyn loved when her daughter Staci would come each week on her days off to help around the house or take her to appointments. She always enjoyed their time together. Her son Chris moved home in 2020 to help take care of her until his death in 2021. She was grateful she got to spend that extra time with him. She also looked forward to talking to her son Joe every night and going on vacation to see him in Texas when she could. Her grandkids Mia and Tanner were her light and joy, she loved when Tanner would come to visit and take her out to eat. She also loved seeing and talking to Mia when she could. Carolyn enjoyed going out to eat and playing cards with Kelly. Getting out of the house and not being alone the last three years is what kept her going. She always lived life to the fullest. Carolyn was the sweetest most precious woman you could have ever been blessed to know, love, and be loved by. She always had a smile on her face no matter what she faced each day. She was a fighter. This world was a better place because she was a part of it. Carolyn is survived by her oldest son Joseph Allen Temple of Rockport, Tx. Her daughter Staci Dee Temple of Tulsa, Ok. One grandson Tanner Sandusky of Wichita, Ks. One granddaughter Mia Carolyn Temple of Rockport, Tx. Her brother Dick (Shirley) Gowen of Coffeyville, Ks. Two nieces Robin Gowen of Glenpool, Ok. and Julie (Jason) Gowen of Coffeyville, Ks. As well as many close family and special friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Leona (George) Howard, her husband Floyd Joseph (Joe) Temple, and her son Christopher Scott Temple. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1001 West 8th St. with Pastor Jessica Husted officiating.
